Poetry

I'm not a prolific writer of poetry, usually, but I've been reading Emily Dickinson lately and the inspiration hit me. Here are two I've written in the last few weeks. The first one, "Dedicated to You," was a Valentine's Day poem I wrote for the man I love. I hope you enjoy it as much as he did. The second one just hit me while I was day-dreaming and gazing out my classroom window one sunny afternoon. Feel free to leave your thoughts!

"Dedicated to You"

You've a look reserved for me-
a warmth that penetrates the soul,
For a Solitary Animal
knows a Love that knows no Foes.

There's a lightness to your touch
- tingles down my spine...
       palpitations in my Chest-
Your loveliness brings out the best in me
and the rest of Life...
        just rests.

No need to feel Inadequate,
No need to recompense.
To bask in pure Tranquility-
It's only Common Sense.

I'm yours by the right of True Love,
I'm yours, Always & Forever, true,
Here's a problem we need not solve:
   ...I Simply Love You...

"Sit me by the Window"

Don't sit me by the Window
for fear of Dancing Lights,
Mesmerized and lost
with thoughts of Freedom
          -and flight.

Watch the streams of gold,
the cascades of lapis lazuli,
Watch the sprouted saplings,
-and the great oaks of old.

  1. Yenny, you truly sound in love and so inspired. I can relate. However, in my experience, true love reveals the best and sometimes the worsts. It knows some foes, self is the first foe I had. However, truly, falling in love can be a problem that needs not be solved as it is the solution in itself.

    1. You're absolutely right. The best relationships work when you love everything about your partner, the good and the bad. As you said, it can make you see the worst in yourself when in love, but that's only a problem if he/ she brings out the worst in you. That's the key difference, I think. You also have to fight your own demons, like insecurity or untrustworthiness. That's the hardest part for me. When I'm at my lowest, my man is understanding and patient. It's very comforting. :)
